5. 특강 내용 : Animals often change their foraging behaviors in response to predation pressure. This adaptation enhances survival by minimizing exposure to threats while optimizing food procurement. In the first segment of my talk, I will discuss our investigation into foraging behaviors in ecologically-relevant settings, emphasizing how the corticolimbic regions modulate responses to predatory threats. Our findings show that the basolateral amygdala (BLA) and dorsal hippocampus (dHPC) integrate fear and spatial information to construct the safety-danger boundary and the BLA and medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC) work in unison to execute risky decisions. In the second segment, I will transition to how these foraging decision mechanisms, derived from rat studies, manifest differently in a mouse model of Alzheimer’s disease (AD). Our research indicates that AD mice have a diminished ability to adjust their foraging behavior when faced with perceived threats. Compared to wild-type mice, AD mice exhibit decreased mPFC-dHPC spike synchrony and dHPC sharp wave ripples during naturalistic risky foraging. This suggests that the impaired risky decision-making observed in AD mice may be due to abnormal interregional neuronal communications within the corticolimbic system, shedding light on potential therapeutic targets for cognitive dysfunction in AD.
